On the death of Fr. Kieran O’Mahony OSA

It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of Fr. Kieran O’Mahony OSA, a dear friend of the Lutheran Church in Ireland and of our wider Lutheran community in Dublin.

Fr. Kieran was often a guest at St. Finian’s, and many personal friendships connected him closely with members of our church. He had a deep appreciation of the Augustinian roots of our church, which made our friendship all the more meaningful. Above all, Fr. Kieran was an ecumenist through and through, committed to building bridges of understanding, friendship and faith among Christians. We will particularly remember his dedicated contribution to the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and his role as the main initiator of the annual Bible Week over many years, to which he brought his deep expertise as a biblical scholar.

Dublin has lost a strong and trusted voice for ecumenism, and our church has lost a very good friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Fr. Kieran’s family and with his Augustinian confrères.

We give thanks to God for his life and ministry, and commend him into the loving mercy of God.

On behalf of the Lutheran Church in Ireland,

The Lead Pastors Anja & Florian von Issendorff
