500 Years Lutheran Hymnal - Workshop and Concert

Martin Luther (1483-1548) was not only a theologian and a reformer, he was also a musician and a composer. In the reform of the liturgy, he gave community singing a renewed role. The first collection of Luther’s hymns was the Achtliederbuch of which we are celebrating the 500th anniversary this year.

In addition to the current exhibition in the Lutherhaus on this subject, we are marking this anniversary with a workshop and a concert on Saturday, 16th November 2024 at St. Finian’s Church and the Lutherhaus with the following programme:

16.00 Interactive Workshop on Martin Luther, his Hymns and the first Lutheran Hymnals

Pastor Florian von Issendorff, Profs. Wolfgang Marx and Werner Blau

18.00 Keynote Lecture

Prof Graeme Murdock, Department of History,

Trinity College Dublin

19.00 Concert including works by Hassler, Walther

and Schuetz on Martin Luther’s hymns

Tempro Vocal Ensemble

Admission is free. We look forward to seeing you there.
